The country’s biggest shopping festival Shop Qatar, organised by Qatar Tourism, is bound to become a money-spinner for Qatari retailers.

This month-long festival will last until March 18.

The participant malls are the Doha Festival City, Lagoona Mall and Place Vendôme Mall, with Landmark Mall, Al Khor Mall, City Center Doha, Hyatt Plaza, Mall of Qatar, Al Hazm and Gulf Mall as Gold Sponsors.

Qatar Tourism has lined up a dense event schedule for this month as part of Shop Qatar. One of the highlights is beauty retailer Sephora which will host a series of masterclasses at Place Vendôme. Meanwhile, UK-based brand Harvey Nichols will be running a fashion show at Doha Festival City on March 14 to showcase Ramadan collections selected by local designers. Shoppers will also have the chance to win prizes worth more than QAR2 million.

According to Al Rayan Investment, Qatar had spent around $350 billion on infrastructure development to host the Fifa World Cup 2022. The staggering effort paid off as it greatly boosted Qatari and regional retail businesses.

By hosting a string of high-profile events such as Shop Qatar, Qatar aims to catapult the growth of its key non-oil sectors, including retail. These efforts are hoped expected to boost tourism in time when Qatar is determined to attract around six million visitors every year by 2030.
