Abu Dhabi’s retail trade grows by 17.4 per cent

Abu Dhabi has revealed its non-oil sector revenues, and retail turnovers have increased since 2021.

According to Abu Dhabi Statistics Centre, the wholesale and retail trade sector reached 45 billion dirhams in the first nine months of 2022, a 17.4 per cent increase year on year. According to Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi, this sector accounted for 5.4 per cent of Abu Dhabi’s nine-month GDP.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi’s economy grew 10.5 per cent year on year in the first nine months of 2022.

According to SCAD’s statistical estimates, the non-oil sectors contributed 50.3 per cent of the GDP, with an increase of 39 billion dirhams ($10.6 billion) to reach 417.3 billion dirhams by the end of the third quarter of 2022.

The Department of Culture and Tourism also revealed data, adding that Abu Dhabi welcomed 4.1 million international visitors during the same period, with Indian visitors accounting for 12 per cent of all non-Emirati hotel guests in Abu Dhabi, totaling 480,000 visitors, a 31 per cent increase from the previous year.

During the nine-month period, the transport and storage sector grew by 11.4 per cent, contributing 1.7 per cent to the emirate’s GDP.

Abu Dhabi Airports announced this month that the emirate’s five airports will handle a total of 15.9 million passengers in 2022, more than tripling passenger volumes from the previous year.

During the first nine months of 2022, the manufacturing sector in the UAE’s capital grew by 8.1 per cent, contributing 8 per cent to the country’s GDP.

Meanwhile, according to SCAD, the city’s financial sector grew by 6.9 per cent year on year in the first nine months of 2022, totaling 28 billion dirhams. The sector contributed 5.5 per cent of GDP.
