Al Meera opens three Maar stores in Doha ahead of World Cup

Ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, starting on November 20, Al Meera Consumer Goods Company is launching three more outlets of its Maar convenience store brand in Doha to target football fans and tourists.

The new on-the-go stores will open at Al Aziziyah, Al Doha Al Jadeeda and Al Wakrah metro stations, bringing the total number of Maar branches to six.

The three Maar outlets will be strategically located to primarily cater to the anticipated influx of tourists and football fans, arriving in Qatar over the next two months for the world’s largest sporting event.

Al Meera said: “Maar branch network continues to expand as we aim to provide shopping convenience for our valued customers wherever they are.

“Opening of Maar stores at Al Aziziyah metro station, Al Doha Al Jadeeda metro station and Wakra metro station reinforces our commitment to introducing a creative approach to bring our services closer to our clients and make our stores more accessible to them in line with Al Meera’s overall vision to remain Qatar’s favourite neighbourhood retailer. With over 60 branches across the country and continuous opening of MAAR stores, Al Meera is keen to serve a wide segment of society, especially as the country is in the euphoria of the world’s largest sporting event to kick off in about 40 days.”

Maar stocks a wide range of everyday staple goods, selling various ready-to-eat foods like sandwiches and snacks.

To tap into the World Cup brouhaha, all Maar branches will be selling officially licensed FIFA merchandise including scarves, hats, balls and the exclusively available official mascot of the sporting event, La’eeb

In 2019, Al Meera floated its plans to open six Maar stores in total.

In August, Al Meera entered a partnership with artificial intelligence company Zippin to launch checkout-free stores throughout Qatar in anticipation of the FIFA World Cup.
