Geant introduces gamification to enhance shopping experience

Alongside its traditional back-to-school promotions, French-based grocery retailer Geant is offering customers the chance to play games online to win vouchers across its stores in the UAE.

Shoppers who spend more than AED250 at the retailer’s hypermarkets and AED70 at its supermarkets are eligible to enter the campaign.

Customers can scan the QR codes on their receipts, register and enter their unique codes to play the games online.

Winners will be selected at random and can redeem their vouchers in-store the next day.

The interactive campaign marks the grocery retailer’s efforts to increase customer engagement and improve shopping experiences through gamification.

Ahead of students’ return to schools, discounts of more than 60 per cent are available on numerous back-to-school products, such as schoolbags, bottles, lunch bags and stationery.

Students’ electronics, including laptops, tablets, headphones and iPads, are also on offer.

Across the Middle East, Gulf Marketing Group operates Geant, alongside its sister grocery retailers Monoprix and Franprix.

Last month, the group opened the UAE’s first Monoprix store in Dubai Hills’ Gardenia Residence.

The store opening comes amid the growth of grocery retail in the country.

The UAE’s food and grocery industry is expected to rise at a compound annual growth rate of 9 per cent to value $40.47 billion by the end of 2025, according to reports by Research & Markets.

Earlier this month, GMG launched its sustainability strategy framework, Make A Difference, marking its efforts to preserve the environment and positively impact society.

The framework centres around the company’s energy, water and waste management operations, the wellbeing and equality of its employees and continuous growth and operational excellence of its business units.

The group will release its first report on the progress of its initiatives early next year.

Across the Middle East, GMG operates more than 120 brands, including Sun & Sand Sports, Dropkick, Supercare Pharmacy, Farm Fresh, Klassic, Nike, Columbia, Under Armor, Timberland, Vans, Mama Sita’s and McCain.
