Shopping centre to open in Makkah in 2026

Saudi Arabian Umm Alqura for Development & Construction Company has announced plans to build a new shopping centre, Masar Mall, at the western entrance of Masar, the urban development project in Makkah.

The construction is a partnership between the construction company and Hamat holding, Saudi-based mall management company.

With a capital investment of SAR2.7 billion, Masar Mall is expected to open in 2026 and will span 130,000 square metres and feature advanced equipment and technology.

“Masar is a modern destination with a developmental and investment vision, and when it ends, it will constitute a modern landmark with multiple capabilities and advantages,” said a spokesperson for Umm Alqura for Development & Construction Company.

“It will contribute to enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Makkah and its guests and will provide a diversified integrated system that attracts investment in a number of basic sectors, to make Makkah an attractive destination for long-term investment.”

Masar is Umm Alqura for Deveopment & Construction’s project to create an investment ecosystem in Makkah and develop and elevate the city’s urban avenues by creating a metropolis around the Holy City.

The project aims to improve life for Makkah’s residents, Umrah pilgrims and visitors, aligning with the kingdom’s Vision 2030 objective to welcome 30 million pilgrims by 2030.

The urban development of the city will create entrepreneurial opportunities for Saudi Arabian youth to elevate their skills.

“[Masar’s] importance lies in its investment and development vision, making it a modern landmark and cultural destination with multiple features,” said Yasser Abuateek, CEO of Umm Alqura.

“The project is based on an integrated infrastructure system and it strives to enhance the efficiency of services on a quantitative and qualitative level, in addition to developing public and modern transport facilities and methods to develop the main western entrance of the Holy Capital.”
