Sharjah to increase inspections of retail shops during Ramadan

News

The Sharjah Economic Development Department announced on Wednesday that it will ramp up inspections of shops during Ramadan.

These will focus on Sharjah’s retailers and markets.

The inspections will begin on Thursday, the first day of the holy month.

The organisation will intensify awareness and inspection campaigns at the emirate level, in order to educate both consumers and merchants about their rights and duties to ensure the safety of markets, SEDD officials told Khaleej Times.

The inspectors will raise awareness about the value of abiding by the law, making sure that the consumer is knowledgeable about the items being purchased, including the prices, and preventing fraud in the selling process.

The official said that SEDD operates regularly through a comprehensive field plan to carry out inspection tours, which are implemented throughout the year by a specialised team.

Inspectors will make sure that retailers list product prices before customers buy items, in order to stop fraudulent purchases.

The SEDD is concerned with making sure that retailers follow the law, offer the best services, and do not market products that do not adhere to the requirements of the department.

In an effort to guarantee the security of all commercial practices in the markets during the holy month, inspection campaigns will be conducted throughout Sharjah’s various cities and regions.
