Young Arabs are ready to boycott brands that harm environment, Arab Youth Survey reveals

News

More than half of Arab youth support calls to boycott brands that damage the environment, rising to about two-thirds across the GCC states, followed by North Africa (58 per cent), according to ASDA’A BCW Arab Youth Survey.

These findings reflect increasing concerns among Arab youth about the impact of climate change on their daily lives, with more than 66 per cent of those surveyed saying they are ‘very concerned’.

This constitutes the highest percentage in the last five years.

President, Mena, BCW and founder of ASDA’A BCW, Sunil John, said: “Most are also willing to support the boycott of brands damaging nature. It is important that businesses take heed of their sentiment and make genuine efforts to minimise their environmental impact by aligning their values with the aspirations of the region’s youth.”

The report results came in on September 21, timed to the Zero Emissions Day, an international day of action to secure a cleaner future and combat global warming.

In April, it was revealed that 69 per cent of global consumers feel sustainability is more important to them than it was two years ago.

Saudi Arabia (55 per cent) and Egypt (50 per cent) were featured among the countries with the highest number of consumers emphasising sustainability in the Mea region, according to Nielsen IQ.

Despite the growing desire for sustainable choices, global consumers face common obstacles such as rising costs, accessibility and a lack of clarity.
