UAE consumers find chatbots highly useful for shopping, YouGov reveals

News

In the UAE, less than one in 10 consumers do not find chatbots useful, highlighting the popularity of AI technology in the country, according to a new YouGov survey.

Thirty per cent of UAE consumers surveyed found chatbots most useful when shopping online for mobile phones and 26 per cent – for electronics, making them the top two categories where this technology seems indispensable to good customer service.

A YouGov survey conducted across 18 international markets finds that chatbots are proving to be a valuable resource for customers seeking assistance while shopping online for various products and services, but three in ten global consumers do not consider them useful in this regard.

While only 12 per cent of global consumers think chatbots come in handy for online grocery shopping, this number doubles (24 per cent) among UAE consumers.

Similarly, for buying clothes and shoes (24 per cent of UAE consumers vs 14 per cent of global consumers) and takeout food (23 per cent vs 12 per cent), online via chatbots are more useful to UAE adults than to global consumers.

Seventeen per cent of UAE consumers believe in chatbots’ usefulness when shopping online for out-of-home entertainment services and cosmetics.

Comparatively, consumers think chatbots are least helpful when buying video games online, but this is still more useful to residents in the UAE than those across the globe (15 per cent vs 10 per cent).

With the AI market on track to surpass the $500 billion mark by 2024, it is no surprise that AI and machine learning continue to become an integral part of business systems the world over.
