This month, Abu Dhabi is expected to welcome a new addition to its shopping landscape – Reem Mall and The Capital Mall. Last year, a host of projects were completed and the trend is going strong in 2023.

Reem Mall

While the date of its full opening has yet to be confirmed, partially operating Reem Mall is expected to open its doors to the public shortly. The $1.2 billion (Dh4.4 billion) mega project is located on Abu Dhabi’s Reem Island.

Reem Mall has described itself as ‘The World’s First Omnichannel Mall’. The centre is expected to represent a ‘blended retail’ approach, which allows for digital shopping at the same time as conventional ‘bricks and mortar mall shopping.

For example, the centre is going to become the world’s first mall with an on-premises logistics hub that enables store-to-door service with 24-hour delivery in the UAE and 72-hour delivery across the GCC.

Digital innovation director for Reem Mall, Milat Sayra Berirmen, said: “At Reem Mall, we are leading this transformation by creating a totally new retail concept – the world’s first fully digitally enabled mall, supported by an integrated logistics hub.”

Spanning an area of nearly 260,000 square metres, the mall houses more than 400 stores, about 85 restaurants and cafes.

Reem Mall will also have a Sharaf DG electronics and gadgets store and a Carrefour hypermarket.

The Capital Mall – China Centre

The Capital Mall – China Centre is scheduled to officially open its doors to the public on March 13. The shopping centre is located at Abu Dhabi’s Capital Mall in Mohamed Bin Zayed City (MBZ City). The mall will feature 600 stores offering brands from Chinese manufacturers.

Chairman origin international at China Centre, Capital Mall, MBZ City, Adnan Dahnous, told Khaleej Times: “We are proud to launch this exclusive Trading Centre with a ‘Chinese concept’ here in Abu Dhabi, with the full support of the Chinese Government, Manazel Group and its entire team.

“Over the past 10 years, Chinese products, brands, and companies have made significant progress and development in the UAE, and we are honoured to have worked with them on our projects. From building materials to machinery, textiles to furniture, we are confident that we will offer diversity, value, and quality to all our customers, companies, and projects in Abu Dhabi.

“But we will not stop here. Our foundation has been laid, and we will create more trading opportunities and platforms for supplying quality Chinese products and services to the Middle East market in the future, working together with our partners in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and beyond.”
