American Express Middle East rolls out its second edition of Shop Small to support SMEs in Bahrain

American Express Middle East is running its second annual Shop Small campaign in Bahrain till December 31 to bolster local businesses.

The news follows the success the last year’s campaign which attracted participants from more than 400 local SMEs.

This second edition of Shop Small underpins American Express Middle East’s commitment to supporting local businesses across the country, with 100 per cent of the Shop Small business partners from last year participating this year, in addition to new merchants.

CEO of American Express in the Middle East, Mazin Khoury, said: “American Express Middle East has been part of the community of Bahrain for over 45 years. Last year, we launched Shop Small and it was well received by both Cardmembers and merchants across the Kingdom, successfully incentivising customers to think and support local businesses first.

“This is an ongoing commitment. We want to take a leading role in the Kingdom to support, foster, and back a strong, sustainable, and dynamic small business community.”

During the two-month campaign, all American Express Middle East Cardmembers will receive BD 2 when they spent a minimum of BD 5 at any of 650 participating Shop Small merchants.

Participating Small businesses across Bahrain will benefit from online tools, marketing support and local promotion campaigns.

The history of American Express’ support of local businesses stretches back to Small Business Saturday which was pioneered during the holiday season in the USA back in 2010 to bring more holiday shopping to small businesses.

Today, Shop Small has evolved into a global movement that is dedicated to supporting small businesses.

American Express brought its operations to the Mena region in 1959 and set up its first office in Bahrain in 1977. Now American Express Middle East employs a diverse workforce of more than 500 employees, covering its consumer card, corporate payments and merchant businesses across the region.
