Jumia Egypt appoints CEO

Nigeria-based e-commerce platform Jumia has announced the appointment of Hisham ElGabry as the company’s CEO in Egypt.

Mr ElGabry, who has been leading the company’s commercial team as CCO since 2022, said on the occasion: “I am proud to lead Jumia’s team in the Egyptian market through the upcoming stage. And I am honoured to be part of Jumia’s continued success in the Egyptian market.

“E-commerce is growing very fast and Jumia Egypt will continue focusing on its unique strength points, most notably: striving for customer satisfaction, providing easy and safe payment methods, a strong partnership with local and international brands, banking services providers, as well as logistics partners. Most importantly, I am proud to be working with the Jumia Egypt talented team, in whom I have infinite confidence that we will together achieve our goals for the coming period.”

In August, Amazon Egypt and Nigerian online marketplace Jumia joined the Medium Enterprise Development Agency to help young businesses market their products via their platforms. The collaboration allows SME owners to display their products for a reduced commission charge. It also allows businesses to store their products for a year for free.

Jumia Egypt was ranked as one of the top 10 influential brands and the number one retail e-commerce platform in Egypt by Ipsos in 2021 and 2022. The company employs more than 1,000 employees in Egypt, connecting consumers to more than 7,000 local vendors.

Listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2019, Jumia operates in 11 countries.
