The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is planning to offer free vast retail space to Emirati entrepreneurs and start-ups in Hatta.

This initiative serves to bolster job opportunities in Dubai’s enclave.

The move comes as part of DEWA’s social responsibility objectives, designed to complement efforts to transform Hatta— an enclave of Dubai in the Hajar mountains—into an investment hub.

As part of the plan, DEWA will offer retail space within the waterfalls project, free of cost, to Emirati citizens of Hatta. The area will be allocated to retailers for showcasing their artisan goods, including honey, souvenir items and other local products.

Managing director and CEO of DEWA, H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said: “DEWA is implementing pioneering projects in Hatta in line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, for a comprehensive and sustainable development all over Dubai, and to transform Hatta into a tourism and investment hub while preserving the city’s heritage and attractive nature.”

The waterfalls project aligns with the vision and directives of vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Mr Al Tayer said that his project is instrumental in developing innovative job opportunities in Hatta as well as in ensuring society’s happiness through mingling natural beauty with recreational opportunities.

“The Hatta Falls project aims to create a sustainable natural environment, in addition to developing the area and turning it into recreational spaces and tourist attractions in the UAE. The idea began with establishing a natural water stream from the waterfall that fits in with the nature of Hatta, to form green spaces around. These divide the project into four main oases that provide investment opportunities for coffee shops, restaurants and children’s playgrounds, in addition to shops to sell honey, local products, and souvenirs. The shops will be given as grants from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to the citizens of Hatta to create additional job opportunities and meet the needs of social, economic and environmental development,” said Mr Al Tayer.
