Majid Al Futtaim opens second Carrefour store in Madinaty, Egypt

UAE-based Majid Al Futtaim Retail has partnered with Egypt’s retail estate developer Talaat Moustafa Group to open the second Carrefour store in Madinaty.

It’s scheduled to open at All Seasons Park Mall.

Carrefour’s first store opened in Madinaty at the Open Air Mall in 2019.

Majid Al Futtaim operates 59 Carrefour stores in Egypt, including 14 hypermarkets and 45 supermarkets.

Today, Majid Al Futtaim has more than 375 Carrefour stores in total across 17 countries, serving more than 750,000 customers daily and employing approximately 37,000 people.

In March, Philippe Péguilhan, country manager of Carrefour Egypt, confirmed the retailer’s objective to boost its online sales through the advanced Carrefour digital platform, as well as focus on the expansion of its dark store warehouses to swiftly cater to Carrefour’s e-commerce customers.

Carrefour Egypt also floated its plans to build 10 new stores in Egypt in the foreseeable future

He said that online sales account for 6.5 per cent of Carrefour’s total revenues. Moreover, the company intends to increase its portion of online sales to around 10 per cent by the end of this year.

Last September, TMG teamed up with premier lifestyle retailer AZADEA Group to bring 13 new brands, including Zara, Zara Home, Oysho, Pull & Bear, Stradivarius and Lefties, to the Open Air Mall.
