Al Ghurair Retail to add Spanish brands after success at Expo 2020

Al Ghurair Retail, Al Ghurair Investment’s retail arm, will add Spanish brands to its retail portfolio, following their success at the Spanish pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

The retail operator collaborated with the Leading Brands of Spain Forum to establish La Tienda: Brands of Spain Shop at the pavilion.

Showcasing over 20 Spanish fashion, food and beverage and accessories brands, the store recorded 580,000 visitors during the six-month event.

“Expo 2020 Dubai was a visionary showcase of synergy, bringing together countries, brands and organisations from across the globe in an energetic and colourful celebration of cultural diversity,” said Arturo Lejan, CEO of Al Ghurair Ventures.

“Through this prestigious platform, we were able to support our representative brands with elevating profile and equity, as well as enhancing consumer choice in the regional retail sector.

“We are honoured and humbled to have had the opportunity to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime event through our innovation and sustainability commitments.”

Fashion and jewellery brands accounted for 53 per cent of total sales, with food and beverage brands raking in 35 per cent.

“Participating brands at La Tienda were selected based on sustainability, quality, innovation and design, in alignment with Al Ghurair’s own core values to enhance life of our customers, employees and the communities that we serve,” said Mr Lejan.

“Its success has opened talks over Al Ghurair Retail potentially adding several Spanish brands to their diverse portfolio, cementing their footprint in the region.”

Last year, Al Ghurair Retail won Brands of Spain’s Friends of Spain Award, acknowledging its contribution towards improving and strengthening economic, cultural and business relationships and bilateral trade between the UAE and Spain.

“We are committed to pursuing more impactful partnership opportunities that boost overall retail experience in the region and support the UAE’s vision of sustainability and innovation as well as its trade relations with international markets.

Founded in 1999, Al Ghurair Retail operates 35 stores in the UAE and Qatar, with goals to expand its footprint across other Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The company’s loyalty programme, Hadiya, returns 10 per cent of purchases to its members, with collected points redeemable for future transactions.
