Egypt welcomes region’s first Carrefour Gourmet store

Majid Al Futtaim’s Carrefour Hypermarket opened its first Carrefour Gourmet store on May 11 in Downtown Katameya in Egypt’s Fifth Settlement district.

The new store, which stocks 7,000 products, intends to provide shoppers with fresh and gourmet ingredients and foods at affordable prices.

In keeping with the French retailer’s and Majid Al Futtaim’s commitment to the region’s digital transformations, the store houses innovative product displays using advanced technology and self-checkout tills to provide shoppers with seamless experiences.

“We are honoured to be opening the region’s first ever Carrefour Gourmet store as part of our evolving mission to provide our customers with more choices whilst shopping,” said Philippe Peguilhan, country manager of Carrefour Egypt at Majid Al Futtaim Retail.

The opening, inaugurated by Hani Weiss, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim and Mr Penguilhan, follows the opening of Supeco, Carrefour’s offshoot hybrid of a traditional store and wholesale warehouse.

Carrefour Gourmet is a continuation of Carrefour Hypermarket’s plans to expand across the country.

This year will see 10 Carrefour openings in the Delta, Cairo, Alexandria, the North Coast, the Red Sea, New Alamein and Upper Egypt.

“As pioneers in the retail industry, and with our customers at the heart of our operations, Carrefour is highly committed to delivering value through every experience, everyday whilst championing positive and productive lifestyles,” Mr Peguilhan added.

By the end of this year, Majid Al Futtaim’s Carrefour Hypermarket intends to invest EGP250 million into developing operations in the country.
