{"id":23103,"date":"2023-05-26T14:35:25","date_gmt":"2023-05-26T14:35:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/?p=23103"},"modified":"2023-05-26T14:50:22","modified_gmt":"2023-05-26T14:50:22","slug":"unilever-arabias-electric-vans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/2023\/05\/26\/unilever-arabias-electric-vans\/","title":{"rendered":"Unilever Arabia adds\u00a0first electric van to UAE fleet to reduce delivery emissions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- VideographyWP Plugin Message: Automatic video embedding prevented by plugin options. --><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unileverme.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Unilever<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Arabia has added the first electric van to its fleet in the UAE.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The move aligns with the UK multinational consumer goods company&#8217;s <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">efforts towards reducing emissions via its logistics operations and achieving net zero value chain emissions by 2039.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">As part of a strategic partnership with\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Carrefour<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, owned and operated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/2023\/05\/22\/majid-al-futtaim-launches-retail-business-school-in-saudi-arabia\/\">Majid Al Futtaim<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">electric van<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">s will initially deliver Unilever\u2019s products to the Carrefour store at the Mall of the Emirates.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Unilever\u2019s head of supply chain in Mena, Ahmed Kadous, said: \u201cSustainability is integrated into everything that we do at Unilever. As part of our vision to ensure a purpose-led and sustainable business model, the EV van aligns with our bold ambitions towards delivering profitable, yet responsible, performance and growth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;The introduction of electric vehicles to our delivery fleet is a core ambition and is central to Unilever\u2019s sustainability commitment. We look forward to working more closely with the public sector and industry to further expand the infrastructure and seamlessly support the transition to electric mobility. I would like to congratulate the team for their unwavering efforts in driving Unilever\u2019s vision forward and thank our partners for sharing our ambitions towards achieving a net zero business model.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The vans are expected to cut emissions by up to 15 per cent in comparison with traditional vehicles, the statement said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Country manager for Carrefour at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, Bertrand Loumaye, said: &#8220;We are committed to sourcing and delivering sustainably sourced produce as part of our \u2018Dare Today, Change Tomorrow\u2019 strategy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;The launch of the first electric delivery van in the UAE from Unilever, a highly valued partner, marks a major milestone in Majid Al Futtaim\u2019s journey to becoming net positive in carbon and water by 2040 \u2013 as well as our collaborative efforts to achieve the UAE\u2019s Net Zero 2050 strategy.
