{"id":22114,"date":"2023-03-14T15:32:40","date_gmt":"2023-03-14T15:32:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/?p=22114"},"modified":"2023-03-17T08:46:21","modified_gmt":"2023-03-17T08:46:21","slug":"uae-consumers-use-smartphones-to-shop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/2023\/03\/14\/uae-consumers-use-smartphones-to-shop\/","title":{"rendered":"A third of UAE consumers use smartphones to shop at least once a week, Dubai Chambers reveals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- VideographyWP Plugin Message: Automatic video embedding prevented by plugin options. --><br \/>\n<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A third of UAE consumers use a smartphone or tablet at least once per week to shop for a product or service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to the president and CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/2023\/02\/20\/dubai-chamber-hosts-e-commerce-workshop\/\">Dubai Chambers<\/a>, Mohammed Ali Bin Rashed Lootah, this is \u2018above the average globally of weekly online purchases\u2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mr Lootah said at The Retail Summit in Dubai: \u201cMobile retail sales are expected to record a compound annual growth of 15.6 per cent between 2022-26 to reach $4.6 billion.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The study demonstrates that the changes UAE shoppers adapted to during the lockdown phase are likely to stay. This was also the period when digital payment gained momentum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The UAE\u2019s e-commerce market is forecast to reach $9.2 billion by 2026, with the category\u2019s share of total retail sales forecast to hit 12.6 per cent.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Total e-commerce sales in the UAE posted exceptional growth in 2021, surpassing $4.8 billion &#8211; up from $2.6 billion recorded in 2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cAs the world came out of the pandemic, UAE and Dubai found ourselves at the dawn of a new era in retail with a very sharp rise in consumer spending and behaviour,\u201d said Mr Lootah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cDriven by activity in several key sectors, including retail, Dubai\u2019s economy rebounded in 2022. The economy expanded by 4.6 per cent in the first nine months of 2022, reaching Dh307 billion.
