{"id":21256,"date":"2023-02-10T14:05:13","date_gmt":"2023-02-10T14:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/?p=21256"},"modified":"2023-02-10T16:33:35","modified_gmt":"2023-02-10T16:33:35","slug":"uae-carrefour-launches-face-pay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/2023\/02\/10\/uae-carrefour-launches-face-pay\/","title":{"rendered":"UAE Carrefour launches PopID facial verification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- VideographyWP Plugin Message: Automatic video embedding prevented by plugin options. --><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/2023\/02\/01\/carrefour-welcomeszola-collective\/\">Majid Al Futtaim&#8217;s UAE Carrefour<\/a> has installed the Face Pay face verification platform for payments in its Deira and Amsaf stores.<\/p>\n<p>Customers can now use the biometrical feature at a payment terminal instead of a phone or card.<\/p>\n<p>This solution is based on proprietary facial recognition technology developed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.popid.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PopID,<\/a> and provisioned through Network International\u2019s acceptance network for mass adoption across the UAE.<\/p>\n<p>COO of GCC at Majid Futtaim Retail, Bernardo Perloiro, said: \u201cCarrefour is ever keen to introduce new technologies that enhance the customer experience whilst finding solutions that can eliminate friction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFace verification will make it easier and more convenient for our customers to check out efficiently without having to reach for their wallets. This safe, seamless payment method only takes a few seconds, and we are excited to be one of the first retailers to be rolling this out across the UAE.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among Carrefour\u2019s other tech-driven innovations are the launch of Carrefour City+ at the end of 2021 which merged physical and digital realities.<\/p>\n<p>It was back in November that UAE\u2019s largest bank First Abu Dhabi Bank, in collaboration with Majid Al Futtaim, brought the biometrical payment method to the country.<\/p>\n<p>A biometric payment card is built with Idemia\u2019s F.CODE technology and fingerprint sensors from Idex Biometrics.<\/p>\n<p>Group managing director of acquiring at Network International, Andrew Key, said: \u201cWe are thrilled to continue driving the evolution of biometric payments with the UAE\u2019s first-of-its-kind face verification platform.
