{"id":18507,"date":"2022-09-13T15:29:01","date_gmt":"2022-09-13T15:29:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/?p=18507"},"modified":"2022-09-16T00:54:42","modified_gmt":"2022-09-16T00:54:42","slug":"three-qatar-retail-companies-make-forbes-list-of-top-100-arab-family-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/2022\/09\/13\/three-qatar-retail-companies-make-forbes-list-of-top-100-arab-family-businesses\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Qatar retail companies make Forbes\u2019 list of top 100 Arab family businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- VideographyWP Plugin Message: Automatic video embedding prevented by plugin options. --><br \/>\nThree <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/2022\/09\/15\/qatar-duty-free-opens-hamleys-store-at-hamad-international-airport\/\">Qatar<\/a> retail companies have made it onto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/2022\/08\/16\/uae-start-up-dukkantek-secures-10-million-in-funding-round\/\">Forbes\u2019<\/a> list of top 100 Arab family businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Abu Issa Holding, Alfardan Group and Al Mana were ranked at number 9, 33 and 74, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The Forbes\u2019 list was compiled to celebrate the region\u2019s most successful legacy businesses, ranking them in terms of size, performance, activity, age, legacy and geographical and portfolio diversity.<\/p>\n<p>Abu Issa Holding is a global company that owns and operates a network of businesses in retail, art and auctions, engineering and contracting.<\/p>\n<p>Established in 1981, its retail division includes global brands Cole Haan, Breitling, Godiva and Elie Saab.<\/p>\n<p>Doha-based Alfardan Group, initially established as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/2022\/08\/16\/saudi-jewellery-brand-lazurde-reports-sar268-8-million-in-revenue-in-h1\/\">jewellery company<\/a> in 1954, \u00a0specialises in high-end jewellery and luxury goods. It has dealership arrangements with the majority of Europe\u2019s renowned watch and jewellery designers.<\/p>\n<p>Since its inception in 1960, Al Mana Group has evolved into a global conglomerate that operates in eight countries. Its retail portfolio spans luxury goods, beauty, fashion, home interiors, watches and jewellery. Its dedicated fashion extension, Al Mana Fashion\u00a0Group, includes brands such as Armani Exchange, Calvin Klein and Furla.<\/p>\n<p>Forbes said the family-owned business sector in the Middle East is flourishing, noting that some of the conglomerates listed, while initially anchored in traditional sectors, are diversifying and resiliently embracing a new-age industry, heavily investing in start-ups.<\/p>\n<p>Forbes Middle East said the region\u2019s Arab family-owned businesses have &#8220;done a V-shaped recovery so far this year in many of the sectors where they are most aggressive, including retail, real estate, energy and industrials&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArab family business practices used to be very concentrated, but that is changing.
