{"id":18351,"date":"2022-08-29T13:32:30","date_gmt":"2022-08-29T13:32:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/?p=18351"},"modified":"2022-08-29T14:23:31","modified_gmt":"2022-08-29T14:23:31","slug":"uae-grocery-prices-to-lower-after-growing-imports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/2022\/08\/29\/uae-grocery-prices-to-lower-after-growing-imports\/","title":{"rendered":"UAE grocery prices to lower after growing imports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- VideographyWP Plugin Message: Automatic video embedding prevented by plugin options. --><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/2022\/07\/15\/conektr-and-triterras-partner-to-support-small-grocery-retailers-in-uae\/\">Grocery<\/a> prices in the UAE are expected to fall as imports from international markets grow more frequent.<\/p>\n<p>By October, cooking oil prices are expected to fall by 5 per cent to 10 per cent, with wheat prices expected to be fall by 15 per cent to 20 per cent, market sources told <em>Gulf News<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Also estimated to fall by 15 per cent to 20 per cent are sugar prices, after India allows for its export.<\/p>\n<p>The projections follow the Food and Agriculture Organisation\u2019s report that placed the average price index of foods at 154.2 points in June and 140.9 points in July.<\/p>\n<p>However, the impact on retail prices is currently negligible due to inflation and transportation costs, said Dhahjay Datar, managing director of Al Ail Trading.<\/p>\n<p>As supplies gradually continue to reach the international market, food prices will reduce further by the end of the year, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Increased costs when working out shipping and logistics have also contributed to increased <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meretailnews.com\/2022\/05\/10\/uae-retail-economy-reports-14-per-cent-growth-in-q1-of-2022-from-2019-says-report\/\">retail<\/a> prices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFortunately, every day we are witnessing the situation being resolved by all the shipping lines,\u201d said Harish Tahliani, managing director of Arab &amp; India Spices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this moment, we are not facing any major hassles and supplies are regular.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith wheat, we recently commenced processing whole wheat flour at our UAE facility.
