Géant launches gift cards in UAE stores

French supermarket and hypermarket chain Géant, part of French retailing giant Group Casino, has launched gift cards across all its UAE stores.

Available in two formats – a digital version and a physical card – the cards can be used across all Géant supermarkets and hypermarkets and can be reloaded by the cardholder.

The physical and digital cards, with a minimum value of AED 50, can be purchased and activated in-store, with the latter added to customers’ mobile wallets.

Shoppers can purchase digital cards at Géant’s dedicated gift card portal – geantuae.ogloba.com. These are valid for 12 months.

President of retail –everyday goods at GMG, Marc Laurent, said: “Today’s discerning consumers expect omnichannel functionality enabling them to purchase both physical and digital gift cards, gift them in person or via email, and redeem them wherever they shop.”

Physical gift cards are still preferred by slightly more than half of consumers, according to a  study from payments company Fiserv, despite the rise of digital cards.

Géant is part of the French retailing giant Groupe Casino, with a turnover in excess of 30 billion euros and part of the GMG’s everyday goods division in the UAE.

Back in December 2022, Géant unveiled its first supermarket location in the country—in City Life Al Jurf in Ajman.

Géant currently operates 18 branches in the UAE.
