UAE-based Al Maya Supermarket chain has kickstarted its ‘Netherlands Food Week’ that will run for three weeks at select stores.

Al Maya Group’s director and partner, Kamal Vachani, said: “We are very excited to announce the Netherlands Food Week at Al Maya Supermarkets in Dubai. We hope this week will be a huge success attracting Dutch people among other nationalities.”

Mr Vachani said that products like capsicum, lettuce, tomato, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, parsnip, chicory, leeks, oyster and portobello mushroom shipped from Netherlands will be available in the supermarkets.

Ambassador of the Netherlands to the UAE Lody Embrechts, who inaugurated the ‘Netherlands Food Week’, said: “Our Dutch food culture is hundreds of years old; it is in our DNA. We are innovative. We drain our land to grow food, make it available to everyone around us and run on food economies. Food has always been important to the Netherlands, not only in terms of production but also when it comes to preparation and consumption. We are delighted to be hosting a Netherlands Food Week with Al Maya Group.”

Al Maya Group, founded in 1982, is a supermarket chain and FMCG conglomerate that operates more than 50 branches in the GCC countries and employs more than 5,000 people.

In August, it acquired a majority stake in the online grocery delivery platform Conektr.
