E-commerce solutions platform Commercetools enters Middle East market

Digital commerce platform Commercetools has expanded its operations to the Middle East and will cater to business-to-consumer, business-to-business and direct-to-consumer companies.

The platform helps businesses establish e-commerce channels to ensure a digital-first approach and convenient online shopping experiences to keep pace with growing retail markets and demands of modern consumers.

“The pandemic has reshaped the way in which consumers shop, leading to a dramatic increase in the adoption of digital platforms,” said Dirk Hoerig, co-founder and CEO of Commercetools.

“As a result, improving shopping experiences is paramount for businesses across industries to keep up with the growing and ever-changing consumer demands.”

Commercetools’ entry into the region aligns with local governments’ aims to diversify their economies.

The region hopes to become fully digitalised amid the growing e-commerce market, which is expected to rise by 60 per cent by the end of 2025, according to EZDubai and Euromonitor International.

“E-commerce has quickly become consumers’ top choice when making purchases and our mission at Commercetools is to enable businesses to future-proof their commerce business,” said Mr Hoerig.

“In order to meet this demand, businesses must adopt modern, advanced digital commerce solutions that give them flexibility and scalability to meet their customers where they are and where they want to be.”

The platform helps businesses achieve flexibility and scalability through its multi-tenant software-as-a-service solution.

With Commercetools’ invention of headless commerce, the separation of the front and back ends of e-commerce applications, web developers can create flexible user interface designs to accommodate multiple touchpoints and business models.

“Having a front end that can be updated and edited without interfering with the back-end commerce functionality allows brands to easily customise their commerce experiences,” Mr Hoerig added.

“Our solutions include best-in-class features and functionality for modern digital commerce, the ability to build and extend the technology to meet customers’ exact needs, along with easy maintenance and scalability to help brands provide beautiful, powerful digital shopping solutions.”

Retail companies in the region have already approached Commercetools to improve their e-commerce channels.

Commercetools manages e-commerce operations of companies from several industries, including e-grocery, cosmetics, fashion and lifestyle retail.

Last year, Commercetools was honoured by technological consulting firm Gartered and named an industry leader by market intelligence firm International Data Corporation.

Google also awarded the company its 2021 Google Cloud Retail Customer Award, celebrating its innovative thinking and technological excellence and transformation.
