Doha Festival City has partnered with Qatar Charity to provide urgent relief aid to Somalia in light of the country’s drought which has led to famine and the displacement of many.

As part of the Stop the Famine of Somalia campaign, the shopping centre and organisation are collecting donations in the form of non-perishable food and non-food items.

Qatar Charity will donate food baskets, non-food items and portable water tanks to those in need in Somalia.

The mall houses a collection area where shoppers can donate essential items, as well as fundraising boxes where visitors can make financial donations.

Qatar Charity hopes for its donations to save more than half of the population of Somalia.

Earlier this year, Doha Festival City held a flash mob performance in partnership with the organisation to raise awareness for Syrian refugees.

The mall and its visitors donated over 500 boxes of essential Ramadan food items.

Doha Festival City also collaborated with Al Daayen Municipality and supermarket chain Monoprix for the Safer Food, Better Health campaign last month.

In honour of World Food Safety Day, June 7, the campaign saw interactive awareness activities, which aimed to educate visitors about foodborne illnesses and encourage healthy food storage, preparation and consumption practices.

Doha Festival City’s efforts to promote nutritious food for better health and wellbeing align with its corporate social responsibility initiatives.

“We are delighted to cooperate with Qatar Charity to extend a helping hand to the people of Somalia,” said Robert Hall, general manager of Doha Festival City Mall.

“As a socially responsible mall, Doha Festival City continuously supports the efforts of local non-governmental organisations in their charity and relief work in Qatar and around the globe.

“Our #FestivalCares programme supports humanitarian initiatives that alleviate suffering through providing a platform for spreading awareness and collecting aid,” Mr Hall added.
