IKEA, furniture and home accessories manufacturer and retailer, will open in Muscat’s Oman Avenues Mall this Sunday, June 19.

The store will be the country’s first IKEA outlet.

Covering two floors and spanning 25,000 square metres, the store stocks over 9,000 articles for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms alongside home décor items.

In keeping with Oman’s Green Agenda to reduce waste and conserve energy and natural resources, IKEA is placing sustainability and eco-friendliness at the forefront of the opening.

The store’s cooling system will operate on electronically commutated motors that run on an alternate current power supply, improving efficiency by 30 per cent compared to traditional air condition.

Condensation from cooling systems will return to the mall’s water system to sustain landscaping.

To reduce energy consumption by 70 per cent to 80 per cent, the IKEA store will be powered by LED lightbulbs.

By 2025, IKEA aims to manufacture products that can be reused, refurbished and recycled in efforts to promote circularity and sustainability.

“After analysing people’s demands we realised the gap in the market and worked on delivering the best solution to future-proof the mall by hosting a globally renowned brand like IKEA,” said Ashraf Ali M.A., executive director of the operator of the mall, LuLu Group International.

“We are fully prepared and waiting to open doors to our first guests and deliver the experience we have promised.

“Our approach is to ensure that visitors get what they are looking for and far more from their very first interaction at the mall.”

To make the IKEA store easily accessible to visitors, the mall has added 550 parking spots to its roof level and 500 to its ground level.

“With innovation, design and value behind every component mapped out, we can affirm that we are positioned to take on large-scale projects to meet the demands and serve the community, said Saud Mohammed Al Khalili, director of development at Al Taher Group, Oman Avenues Mall’s owner.

“By adding IKEA to its retail portfolio, Oman Avenues Mall will further enhance its offerings whilst simultaneously creating an inviting atmosphere.”

The store also houses the iconic IKEA restaurant which seats up to 400 diners.

Aligning with their objective to promote healthy and ecological living, IKEA’s restaurant carries ingredients certified by international sustainability schemes The Aquaculture Stewardship Council and UTZ.

Also available to Oman consumers is IKEA’s online shopping site and Click + Collect services, allowing for items to be purchased online and collected in-store for a faster and simpler shopping experience.
