Majid Al Futtaim’s Carrefour has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC), a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi’s National Energy Company, to incorporate the emirate’s ‘Green Corner’ initiative at its Al Saqr branch in the capital.
The initiative, which aims to reduce 20 per cent of the emirate’s water and electricity consumption by 2030, will help to encourage shoppers to shop sustainably and effectively.
ADDC staff will teach Carrefour attendants about electricity and water usage so they can help customers shop sustainably and efficiently.
The ‘Green Corner’ will stock refrigerators, washing machines and other home appliances, with attendants available to educate shoppers on sustainable and eco-friendly options, while taking into consideration products’ energy consumption, cost and performance.
“This exciting initiative will arm our customers in Abu Dhabi with the knowledge they need to shop more sustainably as Carrefour seeks new ways to innovate and educate, whilst forging a greener future,” said Christophe Orcet, head of commercial and operations division at Majid Al Futtaim Retail – Carrefour UAE.
“By choosing high-efficiency appliances over conventional models, consumers can save on utility bills, reduce their home’s carbon footprint and enhance their lifestyles.
“With the help of our surrounding community and our partners at Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, we look forward to extending our Green Corner to protect the wider environment beyond our stores.”
The initiative also aligns with the UAE’s objective to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
“By collaborating with Carrefour to expand our Green Corner initiative, we will build upon the success of our existing Green Corner locations, helping more of our customers make informed decisions about their home water and electricity consumption,” said His Excellence Saeed Mohammed Al Suwaidi, managing director of Abu Dhabi Distribution Company.
“This partnership also signifies the important role that ADDC plays in supporting the. Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s demand side management efforts and the UAE’s objective to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.”
