Carrefour UAE raises AED2 million to deliver 100,000 meals

Carrefour UAE has raised AED2 million to help feed families in need.

Its You Donate, We Double campaign,  in collaboration with Emirates Red Crescent, was set up with the aim of delivering 100,000 meals to refugees, displaced individuals and families, and crisis-stricken communities across the region.

At checkout, both in-store and online, customers could purchase and donate a meal worth AED20, which Majid Al Futtaim – owners of the Carrefour franchise in the region – matched dirham for dirham until they reached their target.

“We are thrilled to be donating AED2 million to families in need,” said Bernardo Perloiro, COO of Majid Al Futtaim Retail’s GCC division.

“As one of the UAE’s leading retailers, we know we can use our size and scale to make a real impact on our surrounding communities and enable positive change – even more so with the support of our customers and extended Carrefour family.

“This has been a real team effort with the support of Emirates Red Crescent, and it is heartening to see people across the UAE get behind such a fantastic initiative,” Mr Perloiro said.

Carrefour also contributed to the UAE’s 1 billion meals drive. The initiative has seen benefactors donate a total of 600 million meals, with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, set to donate the remaining 400 million.

“Together, we can do so much, and we urge everyone to donate as much as they are able to extend the spirit of Ramadan,” Mr Perloiro said.
