Grandiose reintroduces management programme for women

Grandiose Supermarket, a leading grocery retailer in the UAE, has announced its second women-only, Management Trainee Programme (MTP), in honour of International Women’s Day.

The course aims to help women explore opportunities and recognise their true qualities.

Last year saw the first edition of the six-month programme, with more than a dozen trainees learning about management.

Nearly 50 per cent of candidates went on to join the retailer in managerial positions once they had completed the programme.

Store managers at seven of Grandiose’s 17 stores are female.

Joumana Al Barazi, store manager of Grandiose at Marina Walk, Dubai, who participated in last year’s programme, said: “It was six months of intensive courses and workshops that really challenged me and taught me a lot about the world of retail.

“There is a lot more potential for growth, but I will always look back and think of the MTP program as an ideal stepping stone into the world of retail.”

Grandiose is also taking steps towards being an environmentally friendly grocery retailer.

As the first retailer to completely replace single-use plastic bags with free-of-cost paper bags, Grandiose continually executes its sustainability mission. The supermarket also supports local farmers by stocking their produce.

Last month, Mussab Aboud of The Ghassan Aboud Group, parent company of Grandiose Supermarket, said: “Our goal is to become the number one grocery retailer that promotes, highlights and actively pushes for sustainability and family values. This is reflected in not just our prices, but our broad selection of eco-friendly goods.

“As our future and our children’s future generations depend on the sustainable decisions we make today, we at Grandiose are committed to upholding the standards of this initiative for the foreseeable future.”

Grandiose runs supermarkets across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah, and plans to double the number of stores in operation across the UAE by the end of the year.
