Saudi Arabia to get its first Spinneys store

Spinneys will open its first store in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, next year, in partnership with Abdulmohsen Al Hokair Holding Group.

The Dubai-headquartered grocery retailer has been looking to grow its presence in the Middle East and expand into the kingdom for the past few years, said Sunil Kumar, CEO of Spinneys Dubai.

“We have considered expanding into Saudi Arabia for several years. With the right structures in place, we look forward to bringing the Spinneys brand to the people of Saudi Arabia.

“We believe we can offer an elevated grocery shopping experience to these customers, alongside a superior product offering.”

Founded in 1924 and owned by Ali Abwardy, Spinneys operates more than 80 stores in the Middle East, including the UAE, Oman, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Qatar.

Spinneys’ Farmer Club, the retailer’s initiative to support local food security strategies by partnering with local farmers, will also run in Saudi Arabia.

Sami Al-Hokair, managing director of the Saudi Arabian retail centre developer, said: “We are excited and optimistic about the potential of the Spinneys brand to bring a differentiated grocery retail to Saudi Arabia.”

The partnership complements the rapid development of the kingdom’s commercial sector.

“The addition of the brand into our stable of world-class brands demonstrates our commitment to sustainable business growth, as we diversify the sectors within which we operate,” says Mr Al-Hokair.
